    Periodontist Arthur Drouganis

Dr Drouganis is our principle periodontist with over 35 years of experience. The first half of his career he practiced as general dentist and second half as a specialist in the fields of Periodontics and Dental Implantology. He holds undergraduate and post-graduate degrees from Adelaide University and has published papers in national and international journals on periodontics.

Dr Drouganis has also conducted post graduate courses at Adelaide University and has dedicated part of his time as an undergraduate tutor. He prides himself on practicing cutting edge techniques which will improve the overall results to his patients.

“I have been practicing dentistry for 32 years — half as a General dentist, with the other half as a specialist in the fields of Periodontics and Dental Implantology.

As an undergraduate, dental implants were talked about as a future treatment option and I believed I would probably never have the opportunity to use them in my dental career. However, dentistry is such a dynamic and rapidly evolving field that by 1991, I was treating and providing patients with dental implants. The fact that I could replace missing teeth by dental implant-retained crowns that look, feel, and function like natural teeth, that instantly changed the lives of my patients is one of most of fulfilling and gratifying feelings that I, as a practitioner, can achieve.

Our society today demands many things to be made and provided instantly. Today, dental implants with artificial teeth can be placed immediately. You can have missing teeth replaced within a day or days that provide instant function and aesthetics.

However, what should be stated is that not everyone is eligible to have “instant implants with teeth” it depends on many factors. For example the quality of bone, (whether its dense or soft), your age, general health, medications and smoking habits, etc. Every case is different and every treatment plan is specifically tailored to our patients. It may mean that for some patients it takes a little longer for the dental implants to mesh with bone before the artificial teeth are attached. It could take a few months to six months or more in some cases, but the end result is that the majority of cases will end up with functional and aesthetically pleasing teeth.

When you visit National Periodontics, you are assessed clinically and radiographically. We then provide you with a treatment plan or options specific to your condition, so that we can best meet your expectations.”
